Hoarding

I found myself sighing many many times today. It started at the DSS (Department of Social Services) office, where there were sooo many people. It made me sad for both the people applying for services and the workers. I can only imagine the number of people they see each day who are requesting assistance from the government or asking why their assistance got cut. My heart hurt because there are so many who don't have "enough". Then I went to the local thrift store where there was "too much". I mean stuff upon stuff. Mostly old stuff which is typical for a thrift store. But what struck me was that it was over-priced and there were even more things in the back room. I also overheard a lady who wanted to buy a bag for $2 instead of the $3(overpriced) they wanted for it. But they said no, and it went back on their pile of "stuff". And it made me think that this was a thrift store that hoards. Either their items should be going home with someone who wants them and has paid for them (at a reasonable price!), or their items should be going to people who need them. So these are my thoughts: We have so many resources in the world that we mis-manage. There are people who make and have abundantly more than they can use, yet it's kept to themselves... And there are people who need more than they have. So, sigh. It just made me sad and made me think of how much better we can do (I by no means am exempt from this. I need to do better too). How much of a difference could be made if we shared more...?

  1. Oh girl. Preaching to the choir.
We should go live abroad (and by "abroad", I mean in some really uncomfortable, third-world country) for awhile and then come back. It'll fix all of us.
